The Product of Design

The Product of Design is an experienced design studio that delivers a comprehensive range of product development services to meet your unique merchandising needs. From design to sourcing to production, we handle each step of the development process to make it easy and efficient for you. We specialize in assisting brands, retailers, artists and museums with designing and producing unique merchandising lines. In our twenty years of industry experience, we have worked with top fashion, luxury and cultural brands around the world.

Each client is unique and so are their project needs. We work one-on-one to capture each client’s concept, design specs, schedule and budget to ensure the finished products are in line with their needs. It is our mission to partner with culturally minded institutions and businesses to develop fun, unique and engaging products that promote the arts and inspire the everyday lives of the people and communities they serve.

With both international and domestic production capabilities, we can source premium products with low minimums and quick turnarounds. Our factory partnerships in the U.S., Asia and Europe allow us to tailor production to each client’s project needs, all while maintaining the highest production standards.

Alain Sainson Frank

As an award-winning designer and art director, Alain Sainson Frank brings his extensive expertise in product line design and development to clients around the world. Alain’s passion for designing memorable high-quality pieces led to his founding of The Product of Design. As CEO, Alain oversees all aspects of designing, developing and sourcing products to meet the needs of his clients.

Alain is well-known for developing product lines for some of the most significant exhibitions and cultural institutions in the world. He has worked closely on merchandising projects with major artists and estates, including the likes of Claes Oldenburg, Salvador Dali, Josef Albers, Roy Lichtenstein, Frida Kahlo, Robert Venturi, Henri Matisse and Andrew Wyeth. His work merchandising the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Cézanne exhibition was cited by the Smithsonian Institute’s SOAR office as a watershed moment in museum retailing.

In addition to his vast experience, Alain also has formal education in the industry, holding a master’s degree in Supply Chain Management from MIT’s Center for Transportation Logistics. This background, along with his certification as a Project Management Professional, has allowed Alain to build a unique synergy between the creative design process and the business development process. With his unique knowledge in the field, Alain has lectured around the world on such topics as production techniques, creative process management and pop-up retailing strategies.
