After his $102 million plan for a new Rhode Island State Archives failed to win over lawmakers in 2024, Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg Amore has downsized his proposal to about $60 million, splitting the archives into two locations: a museum on Smith Hill and a reading room at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.
