Opera on the Avalon is about to launch February, an opera based on the 2009 Lisa Moore novel of the same name. The story follows the life of Helen O’Mara, a woman who loses her husband, Cal, on the Ocean Ranger — the real-life oil rig that sank off Newfoundland on Feb. 15, 1982, killing 84 men.
